Observation of the rare decay $K_{S} \rightarrow \pi^0 e^{+}e^{-}$

A search for the decay $K_{S} \rightarrow \pi^0 e^{+}e^{-}$ has been made by the NA48/1 experiment at the CERN SPS accelerator.
