Revisiting the observability of the WH and ZH, H-->bb channel in the 14 TeV pp and 2 TeV ppbar collisions (lbb and llbb final states)

A detailed study of the associated Standard Model Higgs boson production, in 14 TeV pp (LHC) and 2 TeV ppbar (Tevatron) collisions, WH with H-->lnu and ZH with Z-->ll, with Higgs boson decays to bb pair, is presented for the Higgs mass of 100 and 120 GeV. Presently, the WH with H-->bb produ...

description A detailed study of the associated Standard Model Higgs boson production, in 14 TeV pp (LHC) and 2 TeV ppbar (Tevatron) collisions, WH with H-->lnu and ZH with Z-->ll, with Higgs boson decays to bb pair, is presented for the Higgs mass of 100 and 120 GeV. Presently, the WH with H-->bb production is considered to be less promising than the ttH associated production for the Higgs searches scenarios at LHC [1]. However, for the Higgs searches scenarios at Tevatron [2], in the combination with the WH/ZH channels leading to the ETmiss + bbbar signature, it is discussed as an important discovery channel in the mass range of 90-140 GeV. The aim of this paper is to provide several details which lead to a quantitative comparison in a consistent framework of the physics potential for these channels in both colliding environments. The emphasis is put on the differences in the expected signal and background rates and compositions of the backgrounds.
