Sumario: | Results of a first assessment on the impact of an upgrade for the LHC machine on the physics potential are reported, considering both the effects on an upgrade in luminosity and of a hypothetical upgrade in center-of-mass energy. These studies are based on the expected performance of the ATLAS and the CMS experiments for LHC. Where the changes in the conditions lead to a significant degradation of the detector performance, ideas for possible upgrades of the detectors are discussed as well. |
