Sumario:97-025 With operating conditions being similar for the LHCB and the HERA­B vertex detector, the experience gained in the construction of the HERA­B experiment is an important input for the design of the LHCB detector. This document briefly summarizes the essential features of the HERA­B vertex detector system ``VDS'' which is built in a joint effort of the MPI for Nuclear Physics at Heidelberg and the MPI for Physics at Munich.
