Sumario: | Backgrounds from punchthrough particles originating from minimum bias events and inclusive QCD jets in the CMS barrel muon system has been simulated using a detailed GEANT description of the Technical Design Report geometry and shielding. Rates due to punchthrough in the entranceat each muon station as well as rates of hits, produced by these punchthrough particles, are given as a function of Z-axis of the muon chambers. The origin of punchthrough hits are presented which may be used to optimize the muon chamber performance. |
