Neutron Induced Isotope Production On Selected CMS Elements Using Geant4

Neutron induced isotope production is one of the major sources for activation of detector materials in CMS, and important studies have been undertaken, to evaluate the amount of activation of the CMS detectors during the running of LHC. In this note we investigate the quality to which the cross-sect...

description Neutron induced isotope production is one of the major sources for activation of detector materials in CMS, and important studies have been undertaken, to evaluate the amount of activation of the CMS detectors during the running of LHC. In this note we investigate the quality to which the cross-sections for isotope production in neutron-induced reactions can be simulated with the Geant4 isotope production code. We describe the workings of the model, and show results found, focusing on the most abundant CMS tracker and calorimeter materials.
