PYTHIA-GEANT Calculation of Resolutions and Reconstruction Efficiencies in an Fe HF Calorimeter

The energy resolution, the eta and phi resolutions, and the 1-TeV jet reconstruction efficiency in an Fe-filled HF calorimeter are calculated using PYTHIA+GEANT for a mean number of 25 minimum-bias ( MB) events on top of each jet, and for four transerve segmentations: Deta = Dphi= 0.10, 0.20, 0.30 a...

Sumario:The energy resolution, the eta and phi resolutions, and the 1-TeV jet reconstruction efficiency in an Fe-filled HF calorimeter are calculated using PYTHIA+GEANT for a mean number of 25 minimum-bias ( MB) events on top of each jet, and for four transerve segmentations: Deta = Dphi= 0.10, 0.20, 0.30 and 0.40. The jet reconstruction efficiency for an [eta, phi] segmentation of 0.20 is 94.1+/-0.8% at a MB rejection of 99.7%; the energy resolution is 21.3+/-0.2%; and, the angular resolutions are 0.032+/-.001 in eta and 0.018+/-.001 in phi.
