Effects of Channel Failure Rates on the Jet Reconstruction Efficiencies an Resolutions in an Fe HF Calorimeter

We have calculated the effects of channel failure rates of 1%, 5% and 15% on the reconstruction efficiency of 1-TeV gluon jets. PYTHIA-GEANT is used for the calculation, and the dead channels are assigned randomly, and differently, for each of the 1000 events in the sample. Roughly speaking, the reconstruction efficiency and the energy resolution each degrade by about one percent for each additional one percent in channel failure rate.
