description | The Mississippi fiber spli00performance has been studied for different settings. Optimal values of the settings are found for two initial temperatures of the splicing procedure. A temperature measurement for the steel jaws is introduced and is found to be useful for the optimization and control of the splicing procedure. It is shown that splicing of the fibers with their ends not polished, but only cut by a razor gives good results in terms of transmission efficiency ( > 92%) and R.M.S. ( <2%). There is no loss of fiber mechanical strength in cutting with a razor instead of polishing it. The transmission efficiency was measured using the CDF scanner box. A method of a quick estimate of the transmission efficiency is proposed which does not require splicing of the tested samples to fibers glued in optical connector and transmitting light to the readout box. |
