Study of Tau-Jet Identification in CMS

We present the methods for off-line tau-jet identification developed for the study of tau-tau decay modes of the neutral SUSY Higgses of mass 140 - 300 GeV in CMS. Detector response is simulated with a GEANT-based package CMSIM. Involving calorimetry and tracker information, tau-jet selection criter...

description We present the methods for off-line tau-jet identification developed for the study of tau-tau decay modes of the neutral SUSY Higgses of mass 140 - 300 GeV in CMS. Detector response is simulated with a GEANT-based package CMSIM. Involving calorimetry and tracker information, tau-jet selection criteria allow to reduce the backgrounds to an acceptable level while keeping the tau selection efficiency at the level of 30%. We investigate the rejection against backgrounds that can be achieved applying in sequence cuts: i) in collimation of electromagnetic energy, ii) in overall ECAL+HCAL isolation and iii) finally, using also the track information by demanding a single hard track with variable threshold in the jet.
