Performance of a CMS Silicon Strip Detector Module with APV25 Readout

The Compact Muon Solenoid experiment (CMS) at the Large Hadron Collider (LHC) at CERN will include a Silicon Strip Tracker covering a sensitive area of 206m2 with about ten million readout channels. Its silicon detectors, made from 6" wafers, will be read out by APV25 front-end chips, fabricate...

description The Compact Muon Solenoid experiment (CMS) at the Large Hadron Collider (LHC) at CERN will include a Silicon Strip Tracker covering a sensitive area of 206m2 with about ten million readout channels. Its silicon detectors, made from 6" wafers, will be read out by APV25 front-end chips, fabricated in the 0.25um deep submicron process which is intrinsically radiation-tolerant. A first prototype module has been built consisting of two chained silicon sensors of 320um thickness and three APV25 chips (version S0). The performance of this module has been evaluated in a pion and proton beam at the Paul Scherrer Institute (Villigen/CH).
