description The physical principle of discharge localization in Pestor spark counters is described. It was experimentally shown that Isoprene is one of the promising candidates to replace 1,3-Butadiene in the standard gas mixture. In the spark counter with the DME-Argon gas mixture and an aluminium nitrite cathode a discharge localization was obtained for the first time. This result is considered as the beginning of a new spark counter technology without conditioning.
