description This document accompanies the chapter on DAQ implementation studies of the Technical Proposal for the LHCb experiment. It gives detailed presentations in the following areas: evaluation of the event builder size required for the DAQ system (number of Readout Units (RU) and SubFarm Controllers (SFC), size of the network), considering various networking technologies suggestions for the implementation of RUs and SFCs and results from performance measure ments done on demonstrators possible implementations of the network, problems to be expected and hints for solutions discussion of various event builder control strategies It includes a detailed presentation of a possible implementation based on ATM. Using switches of 10 Gbit/s aggregate bandwidth, that are available now, 26 such switches would be required for the full read out protocol and 14 for the phased readout protocol. Results from simulation studies and performance measurements on a small scale full readout demonstrator give good confidence that LHCb DAQ imple mentation is feasible This report suggests also further studies concerning RUs, SFCs, control modules and it outlines the importance of pursuing the effort in simulation of large networks1
