Sumario: | In LHC it will be important to measure in a non destructive way and with good precision the proton beam profile from 450 GeV to 7 TeV. This can be achieved by using the synchrotron radiation emitted by the combination of the D3 bending magnet installed in the Interaction Region 4 (IR4) of the LHC and a 5 T undulator placed in proximity of D3. In total two of such combinations, one per beam, are needed. The D3 magnets are already designed and are being built by BNL. This preliminary design report introduces the undulator in this scheme. The general layout, the functional requirements as well as ressources and schedule are addressed. |
