description | The LHC cryodipoles will be assembled at ground level and then transported and handled by various means until their final positioning in the tunnel. The dynamic behaviour of the cryodipole is different for each means of transport and has been studied using finite elements. The effect of the transport restraints on the dynamic behaviour of the cryodipole was assessed and a layout of transport restraints for the LHC cryodipoles is proposed. Furthermore, the maximum admissible accelerations during transport are presented. Accelerations should be monitored from the assembly operation until the cryodipoles are in their final position in the tunnel. For this purpose, a system based on self-contained tri-axial shock and vibrometer monitors is proposed. |
