description | Recent magnet-design work has made necessary the detailed calculation of electromagnetic forces on iron parts. With the coupling method between boundary-elements and finite-elements these forces can be accurately calculated by means of the Maxwell stress tensor. This method of electromagnetic force calculation has been implemented into the CERN-ROXIE field computation program. This paper derives the implemented formulae for the 2-dimensional and the rotational symmetric case, and explains how to perform force-calculations with ROXIE. Some examples of force calculations in recent design work is presented. |
