Evidence for double diffractive excitation in $pp \rightarrow (p\pi^{+}\pi^{-})+ X$ at the CERN LSR and test of factorization

Evidence is obtained for the existence of double diffractive excitation in the reaction pp to (p pi /sup +/ pi /sup -/)+X at (p/sub t//sup 2/)=0.03 GeV/sup 2/ and square root s=53 GeV.
