description | The startup planning for LEP in 1998 is presented. Operation this year is planned with the 102/90o lattice. The machine will be commissioned with this optics and operation for physics at 45 GeV fo r the Zo calibration data will be attempted. The 90/90o lattice, as a 'backup' solution for the Zo running, will only be commissioned in case of dire need. As usual there have been changes to the machine during the shutdown. The most important of which is the re-arrangement of IP6 with the installation of 8 new SC-RF modules there. IP6 and IP2 are now similar. 36 CU-RF cavities have been removed from the machine. In addition the polarisation wiggler positions have been changed in IP3 and IP7 to protect the separators from synchrotron radiation produced by the wigglers. Finally the vertical aperture of the vacuum chamber in all four experiments has been reduced to 55 mm. |
