Sumario: | A usable working point for accumulation at 22 GeV is constrained by the need to accommodate a sizeable and changing coherent tune shift while avoiding harmful resonances. Only if this is possible will the fundamental limit - the transverse mode coupling instability (TMCI) - be reached. The aim of the MD was to attempt to push the low intensity tunes towards the 1/3 integer, raise Qs somewhat and cross the potentially limiting 2Qs synchro-betatron resonance at low intensity. This strategy proved to be successful and over 1 mA per bunch was accumulated in a single beam of 4 bunches. Attempts were also made to put the tunes above the 1/3 integer and to raise the synchrotron tune. |
