Sumario:A survey has been made of the short straight sections in the SPS machine. From this the type of pumping port shield to fit has been determined. At the same time, places where unnecessary vacuum chamber section changes occur have been identified and replacement chambers specified. In some cases, shielding of the pumping port is not required, or special equipment on the short straight section prevents installation. Out of a total of 216 straight sections, 176 can be fitted with shields. The remaining 40 will be attacked individually.
