description The dependence of energy loss on bunch length was determined experimentally for a single bunch from measurements of the synchronous phase as a function of intensity for different capture voltage amplitudes at 26 GeV in the SPS. The results are compared with the expected function calculated from the resistive part of the known SPS impedances below 1 GHz. Two sources of impedance - 4 cavities of the 200 MHz RF system and 5 MKE kickers give the main contributions to energy loss in good agreement with experimental results.
