Proposal to the ISRC : A study of direct photon production

The aim of this experiument is to improve the measurement of events with direct single photons in pp and $p \bar{p}$ collisions. Higher rates and lower backbrounds than in R807 are obtained by the use of two arrays of small NaI blocks in conjunction with the R807 calorimeter. The direct production o...

Sumario:The aim of this experiument is to improve the measurement of events with direct single photons in pp and $p \bar{p}$ collisions. Higher rates and lower backbrounds than in R807 are obtained by the use of two arrays of small NaI blocks in conjunction with the R807 calorimeter. The direct production of two photons will be studied. We expect to observe the continuum reaction, as well as narrow states decaying to two photons. These detectors will also be used to investigate electrons produced in association with jets, and low $p_T$ electron production.
