Sumario: | Micro-pulse gun (MPG) is a novel microwave electron gun. It is a kind of high brightness electron source. The concept of MPG has been studied in detail. The multipacting theory and self-bunching progress of the electron beam are discussed. The natural 'bunching', or resonant phase selection of the particles gives rise to high current density (kA/cm sup 2 ). The saturated beam pulse width is found to be typically 5% of the RF period. The cavity parameters such as the accelerating gap width and electric field are determined based on the theory. The cavity design and the dynamical simulation result are also presented |
