description More than 4000 silicon microstrip detector modules for the ATLAS semiconductor tracker will be produced at seven production centres located at the participating institutes. By distributing the production the collaboration can profit from local manpower and infrastructure at the different institutes avoiding costs associated with setting up dedicated infrastructure and having people travel for the production. The distributed production makes the quality assurance procedure more complex compared with a situation where all production is in a single location. Procedures have to be established to get the silicon detector modules to conform to the same electrical and mechanical standards. This paper concentrates on the geometrical requirements of the silicon detector modules and quality assurance of the geometrical properties in the production of detector modules.
