Exploring hadronic tau identification with DC1 datat samples: a track based approach

Sumario: | In this note we discuss the identification of hadronic $\tau$s. We propose an algorithm, tauID, which starts from a reconstructed, relatively high pT track and then collects calorimetric energy deposition in a fixed cone seeded by the track eta and phi at the vertex. With the proposed algorithm we explore exclusive features of the hadronic $\tau$ decays and we indicate also the possibility of using an energy-flow based approach for defining the energy scale of the reconstructed tau-candidates. The results presented here are limited to the barrel region (|eta| < 1.5) and are based on the DC1 events simulated without pile-up and electronic noise. We compare the performances of the proposed algorithm and of the base-line tauRec algorithm and draw some conclusions for further studies. |
