The design of the calorimeter will make access to the APD's extremely difficult once they are installed. In view of this the APD group has devised a system of tests to ensure that the APD's will have a high-probability of surviving for ten years in the harsh environment in the CMS detector. In this paper we describe the methods that we have adopted to select the APD's for the CMS detector. (6 refs).
