Sumario:The effects of linear machine imperfections are discussed under the following main headings: field errors, gradient errors, coupling. The starting point of all the calculations is a perfect linear machine. The equilibrium orbit, the Twiss parameters and the dispersion are all assumed to be known. The equilibrium orbit is the periodic solution of the equations of motion for the perfect machine. (9 refs).
