Sumario:Th experiments on the Serpukhov, CERN and Batavia accelerators have discovered a new phenomenon in hadron interactions: with increasing energy the hadron-hadron total cross sections cease to fall and begin increasing rapidly. The paper is devoted to a discussion of this phenomenon. Its main aim is to show what radical changes occur in high-energy scattering models due to high-energy measurements and to indicate the experiments which can throw light on the new phenomenon.
