Sumario:If pulse power supplies with high-capacity static converters are connected directly to an 18 kV network without any special compensation measures being adopted, certain problems must be overcome. The article describes a new reactive-power compensation system in detail, a number of oscillograms being used to illustrate the results obtained. The system is also suitable for use in metallurgical plants and rolling mills where there are large fluctuations in the reactive power, and in steelworks for working in parallel with electric arc furnaces.
