Long-transverse-momentum phenomena and Fermi's statistical model for multiparticle production at high energies

Fermi's statistical model is modified to account for large-p/sub t/ production observed in data from NAL and CERN ISR. A new scaling variable z/sub t/(=p/sub t/s/sup -1/8/) is proposed for large-p/sub t/ processes. Assuming that large-p/sub t/ processes are predominantly associated with high-mu...

Sumario:Fermi's statistical model is modified to account for large-p/sub t/ production observed in data from NAL and CERN ISR. A new scaling variable z/sub t/(=p/sub t/s/sup -1/8/) is proposed for large-p/sub t/ processes. Assuming that large-p/sub t/ processes are predominantly associated with high-multiplicity events implies that a model of this type must be able to account for high-multiplicity events in general. Several predictions of the model are suggested with regard to future experiments. (14 refs).
