Constraints on the charged-multiplicity distribution from neutral- charged-particle correlations

Sumario: | At present the only data on neutrals which are available at various energies, for pp collisions, are on N/sub 0/(n/sub -/), the average number of neutrals for a given number n/sub -/ of negatively charged particles. The expression for N/sub 0/(n/sub -/) depends on the neutral-negative-particle correlations and on the charged-multiplicity distribution P(n/sub -/), that is the probability of producing n/sub - / negatively charged particles. The author takes the dependence of N /sub 0/(n/sub -/) on n/sub -/ as known. This coupled with some simple assumption about the higher neutral-negative correlations gives constraints on P(n/sub -/) in the form of recurrence relations. These then enable them to calculate or 'predict' the P(n/sub -/) given some input from the experimental data. (6 refs). |
