Cross sections for the spallation production of $^{10}$Be in targets of N, Mg, and Si and their astrophysical applications

Sumario: | The measurements of the cross sections for the spallation production of Be were made at CERN with 600 MeV protons and in Orsay with 150 MeV protons. These were sigma (/sup 10/Be) (in mb) 1.3+or-0.6 in N, 0.7+or-0.3 in Si, and 0.6+or-0.4 in Mg for 600 MeV protons, and 0.6+or-0.2 mb in N for 150 MeV protons. Cross sections were also obtained for production of /sup 7/Be and /sup 22/Na in Si and Mg targets. The problems of /sup 10/Be production in meteorites and lunar material, in the atmosphere, in cosmic dust and cosmic rays, are discussed. (39 refs). |
