Sumario: | Giant track detectors such as the BEBC at CERN and the MIRABELL in France are described. The advantages of using electronic detectors i.e. spark chambers, proportional and drift chambers for greater selectivity are discussed. Since their use in the TeV range is limited, a new class of detectors based on transition radiation is envisaged. Possible solutions to the problems of processing particle data are put forward and the role of international cooperation in particle physics research is described. (0 refs). |
