Sumario: | This is a summary of two articles on the super proton synchrotron which appeared in November and December 1973 in the CERN courier. The machine is a development on the lines of previous experience, and can deliver 10/sup 13/ protons per pulse; the injection time is 23 mu s in place of the 2 mu s of the previous pulse synchrotron, and special ferrite-cored magnets are used. Preliminary tests suggest that this accelerator will lead to fundamental information concerning neutrinos, pions, kaons, protons and anti-protons. |
