The forgotten /sup 1/D/sub 2/ level of charmonium
The standard 'charmonium' picture predicts four C=+1 states (/sup 3/P /sub 0/, /sup 3/P/sub 1/, /sup 3/P/sub 2/, 2/sup 1/S/sub 0/) between psi and psi '. If these are identified with the four experimentally observed levels, serious difficulties arise. A 'forgotten' /sup 1/D...

Sumario: | The standard 'charmonium' picture predicts four C=+1 states (/sup 3/P /sub 0/, /sup 3/P/sub 1/, /sup 3/P/sub 2/, 2/sup 1/S/sub 0/) between psi and psi '. If these are identified with the four experimentally observed levels, serious difficulties arise. A 'forgotten' /sup 1/D /sub 2/ level (J/sup PC/=2/sup -+/) is likely to be around 3.5 GeV. It may be identified with chi (3.45) or chi (3.50), avoiding the above difficulties. The 2 /sup 1/S/sub 0/ level has then yet to be discovered. (9 refs). |
