Comment on calculations of the K$\_{L}\rightarrow\mu\overline{mu}$ gauge theories

A modified calculation of the decay rate for K/sub L//sup o/ to mu /sup +/ mu /sup -/ in the Weinberg-Salam theory with GIM charm and free quarks is presented. The corrected result is consistent with that of Flambaum and others, but a difference over the Ward-Takahashi identity remains. The main con...

description A modified calculation of the decay rate for K/sub L//sup o/ to mu /sup +/ mu /sup -/ in the Weinberg-Salam theory with GIM charm and free quarks is presented. The corrected result is consistent with that of Flambaum and others, but a difference over the Ward-Takahashi identity remains. The main conclusion that two photon exchange provides the principal mechanism for the decay is unaffected. The case of interacting quarks in an asymptotically free theory is also investigated, yielding results consistent with those of Nanopoulos and Ross rather than those of Vainshtein et al. (4 refs).
