Recent observation of p+p to pN* (1688) at CERN Intersecting Storage Rings and the nature of the Pomeron singularity

It is observed that the cross section for pp to pN* (1688) has energy dependence very similar to that for elastic pp scattering (based on new ISR data), and an interpretation in terms of a bare Pomeron with intercept above unity is proposed. (13 refs).
