Observation of proton emission following thermal neutron capture in 345d/sup 84/Rb
Using a target prepared by on-line isotope separation, thermal neutron capture in /sup 84/Rb(I/sup pi =/2/sup -/)has been shown to induce proton emission to the ground state (O/sup +/) and first excited state (2/sup +/) of /sup 84/Kr. The branching ratio was measured as Gamma /sub p/(0/sup +/)/ Gamm...

Sumario: | Using a target prepared by on-line isotope separation, thermal neutron capture in /sup 84/Rb(I/sup pi =/2/sup -/)has been shown to induce proton emission to the ground state (O/sup +/) and first excited state (2/sup +/) of /sup 84/Kr. The branching ratio was measured as Gamma /sub p/(0/sup +/)/ Gamma /sub p/(2/sup +/)=4.7+or-0.7, favouring a 3/2 /sup -/ assignment of the capturing state without excluding 5/2/sup - /, and the (n/sub th/, p) cross section at 12+or-2 b. The energy available for the process was determined to be 3.45+or-0.01 MeV, in agreement with other mass data in the region. (9 refs). |
