Scaling and the violation of scaling
It is shown that the asymptotic freedom is not relevant in order to obtain scaling for the deep inelastic scattering process. By assuming that the quarks perform simple harmonic oscillations inside the hadron, reasonable pion and nucleon structure functions can be obtained. (5 refs).
