Resonance production in six prong pp annihilations at 25 GeV/c

This paper presents a study of 5000 6-prong pionic annihilations obtained in the CERN 2m hydrogen bubble chamber, and of a larger sample containing 1287 6 pi events. There is clear evidence of abundant rho and omega production. Partial cross sections for various resonance channels obtained from maxi...

Sumario:This paper presents a study of 5000 6-prong pionic annihilations obtained in the CERN 2m hydrogen bubble chamber, and of a larger sample containing 1287 6 pi events. There is clear evidence of abundant rho and omega production. Partial cross sections for various resonance channels obtained from maximum likelihood fits, are given. Evidence is presented for the production of two resonances at masses of 1.7 and 1.8 GeV in the 4 pi mass spectrum of the 6 pi annihilations. In the 7 pi channel A/sub 2/ and omega cuts applied to the 3 pi /sup +or-/ 2 pi /sup -or+/ pi /sup o/ effective mass plot indicate the production of resonances at masses of 2160+or-20 and 2320+or-20 MeV.
