Sumario:The LEP (large electron positron storage ring) project of CERN is planned to produce very high energy particles. The history of the development of the present site is outlined. The new machine has a peripheral acceleration track of 26.7 km with a maximum energy development of 125 GeV. Components of the LEP ring include a set of deflector magnets, magnetic lenses of quadrupole formation, an accelerator system, a vacuum system and a control system. Brief details of each are given.
