Sumario:The (p, n) reaction at intermediate energies is a sensitive tool for the study of isospin-spin correlations in nuclei. For heavy nuclei the neutron-spectra are at forward angle dominated by transitions corresponding to excitation of collective states carrying a significant part of total sum rule strength. The zero degree spectra give information on the Gamow-Teller strength distribution. The analysis shows that only 30-50% of the strength of observed, and the coupling to the Delta -resonance could be responsible for part of the missing strength. (16 refs).
