description Presents an analysis of the effects of asymptotic freedom on charged current nu and nu deep inelastic scattering. The author considers both the GIM model and the five-quark model with right-handed couplings, and calculates the Q/sup 2/ dependence of the quark distributions as given by asymptotic freedom, and uses these distributions to calculate sigma /sup nu // sigma /sup nu /, (y)( nu ) as well as x and y distributions. The effects of asymptotic freedom in charm and b quark production are studied, as well as the sensitivity of the results to the shape of the gluon distribution. The importance of comparing theory with data excluding low Q/sup 2/ values (say Q/sup 2/>or=2 GeV /sup 2/) in attempting to resolve the high y anomaly controversy, is emphasised. (29 refs).
