About 1963 it was suggested that the PS be extended with intersecting storage rings (ISR), and a 300 GeV SPS be built. By 1971 the ISR was ready for experiments, and the SPS proposal approved. At the present time the SPS programme comprises 28 experiments in the West Hall. (0 refs).
