Communication systems

This paper gives a survey of the field of data communication. the topics covered are: types of communication, protocols, communication control systems, communication equipment and techniques, and types of data nets. Further, some of the data nets in use today, and the techniques applied in their implementation, are described. The intent of the paper is not to give an in-depth analysis of the various data communication techniques; rather, to attempt to describe the principles and problems involved in the construction of a state-of- the-art communication system.
