Sumario:In a study of the production of strange particles in pi /sup -/p- interactions at 16 GeV/c, using 90000 photographs from the 2-meter hydrogen bubble chamber at CERN, a gamma -ray event with V/sup 0/, gamma and a deflection in one of the secondary negative tracks, were observed. After processing the data using a program for the kinematic identification of V/sup 0/-particles, the V/sup 0/-particle was identified as a Lambda -hyperon with a momentum of 2105+or-30 MeV/c. The exit point of the Lambda -hyperon coincides with the gamma - quantum conversion point; the mean chi /sup 2/ value is 0.94+or-0.29. (5 refs).
