Sumario:The construction of a 1*1.5 m/sup 2/ liquid argon calorimeter designed for high-precision measurement of electromagnetic showers is described. The performance of the instrument is documented by data taken in an experiment carried out at the CERN Superprotonsynchrotron. The resolution in terms of standard deviation is Delta E/E=12%/ square root (E(GeV)), Delta x=3 mm and Delta m/sub pi 0/=8 MeV. (7 refs).
