Muon pair production (M>41 GeV/c/sup 2/) by pi /sup -/ at 150, 200 and 280 GeV/c in the CERN-NA 3 experiment

The authors have performed a high statistics analysis of muon pair production. Their sample of events of mass between 4.1 and 8.5 GeV/c /sup 2/ consists of 2.2*10/sup 4/ events at 150 GeV, 5*10/sup 3/ events at 200 GeV and 5*10/sup 3/ events at 280 GeV incident pion energies. The authors present res...

Sumario:The authors have performed a high statistics analysis of muon pair production. Their sample of events of mass between 4.1 and 8.5 GeV/c /sup 2/ consists of 2.2*10/sup 4/ events at 150 GeV, 5*10/sup 3/ events at 200 GeV and 5*10/sup 3/ events at 280 GeV incident pion energies. The authors present results on scaling, on analysis of our hydrogen data, and on the P/sub T/ distribution. (2 refs).
