A study of direct single photons and correlated particles in proton- proton collisions at square root s=624 GeV

An analysis is given of single photon production in pp interactions at 62 GeV, in an attempt to determine the proton's gluon distribution. Results are presented for the ratio f/sub gamma /= gamma /all and charge ratio. The former is enhanced, while the latter indicates an excess of high X/sub e...

Sumario:An analysis is given of single photon production in pp interactions at 62 GeV, in an attempt to determine the proton's gluon distribution. Results are presented for the ratio f/sub gamma /= gamma /all and charge ratio. The former is enhanced, while the latter indicates an excess of high X/sub e/ positive particles in the single photon enhanced sample. Results suggest that the process qg to gamma q is significant in high p/sub T/ single photon production. (3 refs).
