Embeddings of classical solutions of O/sub 2p+1/ nonlinear sigma - models in CP/sup n-1/ models

CP/sup n-1/ models have stable instanton solutions to the Euclidean equations of motion for all n, and so show some similarities to Yang- Mills theories. Anti-instanton solutions also appear. Sumario:CP/sup n-1/ models have stable instanton solutions to the Euclidean equations of motion for all n, and so show some similarities to Yang- Mills theories. Anti-instanton solutions also appear. Solutions of O /sub n/ models may be trivially embedded into CP/sup n-1/ models. The problem of finding solutions to the Euclidean equations is equivalent, mathematically, to finding harmonic maps: maps giving a finite-energy extremum of a certain energy functional (the Euclidean Lagrangian). The stability of CP/sup n-1/ instantons is guaranteed by invoking the invariant topological charge. The authors show that there exists a system of instantons and anti-instantons which is a solution of the equations of motion such that the interaction energy is equal to the sum of the individual energies.
